Study conducting on thimerosal concerning vaccines and ASD

The purpose of this study was to determine if thimerosal, which is used in a limited number of vaccines today, can cause an increased risk to autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This study from the Official Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics observed if there was a relationship between thimerosal containing vaccines and/or the use of the preservatives in immunoglobulin preparations, and ASD.

The controls of the experiment were birth year, gender, and the organization of given care. A total of 256 children with ASD were observed and each child’s calculated exposure to thimerosal was obtained from electronic immunization reports, medical charts, and information from the parents. The results demonstrated that there was no increased risk in any three of the “managed care organizations” or (MCOs). Therfore, it was concluded that exposure to thimerisol through either ethylmercury in vaccines or immunoglobulin preparations was not linked or related to increasing the likelihood of autism (ASD).
